A long time ago in a blog far far away….

It’s been a while. I could blame the pending arrival (we’re at T+ 2 and still waiting for the baby) but between various other distractions and some serious ennui with the game, I’ve basically been logging in to swap skills.

By now I figure most people will have seen Rix’s post about Odyssey. btw June 4 is the delivery date 🙂 Go see Poetics post too! Unifex at PAX East.

Indy rebalancing. POS work (oooooh esp if coupled with indy reworking). Players affecting sec status (now wouldn’t it be interesting if they turned null on its head – the more a system is farmed the “safer” it becomes, slowly devaluing the resources found there) and redistribution of resources. Ship rebalancing also continuing – new ships too!. Storyline!!! OMG yes please!

But the thing that really sticks out for me in that presentation was probably in the first few minutes  “.. there is an awful lot of space out there. One of the things that we get from all of our players is saying that they came here because there is a sense of wonder, a sense of the unknown, there is a sense that when I undock I don’t know I’m gonna find…”

Awesome. This has been missing from the game (imho) for a very long time. I actually looked back to find one particular post about exploration and how it could be improved I’d written – and found about 8 of them. All of similar tone too I might add.

The most important one is at the top, but they’re all applicable in their ways. Read em all if you’re in a masochistic mood 😛 Otherwise, just the first. I’ve been harping on about this subject since at least mid 2010….

CCP seems to be bringing back the wonder. About bloody time! 🙂

P.S I decided not to go to fanfest this year due to the pending arrival. My better half would never have forgiven me. But I can tell you I was sorely, sorely tempted..!
